Task Types

Each week of class consists of multiple Tasks of the Week:

  • audio or audio-video listening comprehension tasks including comprehension quizzes
  • case studies and related texts including reading comprehension tasks
  • vocabulary input including relevant quizzes
  • active participation in forum discussions 

 The use of interviews, case studies, audio-video and audio resources will increase your knowledge of best-in-practice industry.

Homework Tasks aim at deepening and expanding acquired knowledge from the classroom and include the following:

  • vocabulary expansion through the use of glossaries
  • active participation in forum discussions 
  • writing assignment to review content and express opinion on subject matter utilizing vocabulary introduced

On the homepage of the course you can find three general forums – News Forum, Discussion Forum and Happy Hour Forum

Throughout the course you will find content specific forums for discussions with your classmates.

The Useful Links section right below the general forums provides you with links to dictionaries, newspaper websites and other online sources relevant for students. Content specific links can be found throughout the course in the introduction of each unit.

Glossaries

This course has four glossaries – one for each unit. In the first task you are given words from the tutor to find definitions for and use in a context. The second glossary task asks you to add key words from a module yourself. The glossaries can be printed or downloaded and serve as a good resource for key vocabulary throughout the course.

Resources 

Depending on the task type you will be given videos, audios or PDF documents to watch, listen to and review. The PDFs can be printed if needed.

Quizzes and Assignments

This course consists of a large variety of quizzes and writing assignments. Quiz types include multiple-choice, true/false, drag & drop, short answers and essays questions. Follow the directions given in the quiz to complete the tasks.

Written assignments need to be uploaded to Moodle as Word or PDF documents.

General Procedure

Each Monday a new unit is introduced. You are given two weeks to complete the tasks. The deadline for each unit can be found on the homepage. Please keep in mind that weekly participation is vital for your success on the course.
